Aris Thessoloniki 0 – 0 MAN CITY – PLAYER RATINGS

16 Feb

Hart – Made one decent save from Neto’s long-range shot but was largely untroubled – 6

Richards – Was always looking to get forward but never managed to create as much havoc as he did against United. Solid defensively, but should have done better with his chance in the last minute – 6

Boateng – I like the look of him at centre-back, where I feel he could partner Kompany. Looks calm and assured, reading the game well and using his pace whenever put in tricky situations – 7

K. Touré – Again, like the rest of the defence, he was solid enough. Aris looked threatening on the break, but Kolo did a decent job in halting their attacks – 6

Kolarov – Returned to his favoured left fullback position and whilst defensively fine, failed to provide us with a spark going forward. Set-pieces were overhit but at least he looked interested – 6

SWP – Given a rare opportunity to impress but failed to take it. Looked bright in the first half but in the second period, couldn’t pass to a teammate (21 out of 31 successful passes). I like Shauny but he needs to up his game – 6

Y. Touré – A much more withdrawn role than we have become accustomed to, part of a central two in midfield. Retained possession remarkably well (86 out of 90) but didn’t influence the game as we know he can, often retreating deep to pick up possession but not doing a great deal with it – 6

Barry – Was below his best in the first half, misplacing a few passes but picked up after the break. Like Yaya, didn’t do enough with the ball – 6

Silva – Only made 41 successful passes all game which suggests that we didn’t involve him enough. Looked busy but needed to take the game by the scruff of the neck – 6.5

Tévez – With Džeko in the side, he is forced to drop deeper, but it’s clear that so far that their partnership is not working. Drifted far too deep on occasions and wasn’t involved enough around the box – 6

Džeko – Mancini had a little pop at him in his press conference after the game, but I felt that he worked hard for the team, without any cutting edge. Should have scored with a header, and saw another long-range shot narrowly fly wide, but needs to work on his first touch – 6.5

Subs

Balotelli – Impressive cameo. Looked bright and even attempted his version of Rooney’s scissor kick – No time to mark

Zabaleta – Late substitute for Džeko – No time to mark

In the light of goals conceded in previous games. Mancini should definitely deploy Boating and Kompany as two CBs. Every time Boating plays as CB he does a far better job than RB. I do not understand why Mancini does not use Boateng as CB despite his consistent great performances as CB.

Richards and Boyata for our RB, Kolarov and Zabalata as LB and Toure and Lescott as alternatives for CB.

Reading your player marks recently and these are once again pretty accurate. One exception would be SWP who may as well not have been there, cant pass, cant/wont cross and looses it far too much. A 4.5 at most, time to get rid.

Definitely Boateng’s best position and I agree he should be given a run in the middle of defence with Kompany. Shaun just keeps on disappointing me this season, he really doesn’t stamp any kind of mark on the game any more. Thought Mancini was a bit harsh on Dzeko when Silva and Tevez were not that good either. Good to see Mario back and I just hope that dodgy knee holds up for the rest of the season, we are going to need him.

    this is our best defence-

    Richards-Boateng-Kompany- Kolarov/Zabs

Richards and Boateng are 2 of the 3 best young defenders in the world, along with David Luiz, and we need them on the field

You keep saying that….Richards and Boateng are not in the top 3 young defenders in the world…

      – Simon Kjaer
      – Ezequiel Garay
      – Gerard Piqué
      – David Luiz
      – Martin Caceres
      – Mamadou Sakho
      – Fábio Coentrão
      – Gregory van der Wiel
      – Marcelo
      – Thiago Silva
      – Sergio Ramos (Only 24)
      – Leonardo Bonucci
      – Mats Hummels
      – Neven Subotic

      … to name a few….
