MAN CITY 5 – 0 Notts County – PLAYER RATINGS

21 Feb

Hart – Couple of iffy moments early on when his failure to command the box put us in trouble but settled soon enough. Made a couple of decent stops in the second half and will be delighted to record another clean sheet – 6

Richards – With Silva tending to drift inside, Richards played virtually as a right-winger. Although he wasn’t as effective as in the first match, he offered us a great attacking outlet, stretching the Notts County defence. Capped off his day with an impressive left-footed volley – 7

K. Touré – Not the trickiest of afternoons for the Ivorian, but he dealt with everything comfortably enough. Used the ball well in coming out of defence – 6

Lescott – Similar to Kolo really, not the toughest of matches for him. Hughes worked hard but posed little threat. His passing was as good as I can remember it ever being (58 out of 64 successful passes) – 7

Zabaleta – Deployed again at left-back to give us a solid look and even managed to get forward surprisingly often in the first half. Put some decent crosses in, but his main job was to defend, and he did that well – 6

Y. Touré – Not his most influential performance, but it didn’t need to be. He kept things ticking over nicely in midfield, using the ball well and proving a tough obstacle to break down – 6

Vieira – Struggled to find the pace of the game in the first half, often forcing him into making late tackles. But improved as the game went on, with his two headers taking his tally for the season to four. Should have possibly scored with another header towards the end, but was nice to see him do something positive in the game – 7

Kolarov – Reverted back to the left of midfield but after impressing there against West Brom, he’s now had two distinctly average performances. Couldn’t supply for the forwards with any crosses from open play, although his set-pieces were very dangerous – 5

Silva – 93% passing success rate tells you everything you need to know about the influence of the diminutive Spaniard. He oozes time and control and with his slick interplay, we look a dangerous outfit – 7.5

Balotelli – A typical display from Mario. Moments of brilliance intertwined with moments of frustration, and a booking for a stupid foul. Life is never dull when he’s around, but although he showed some decent touches, his partnership with Džeko never clicked. Suffered what looked like a serious head injury but was thankfully back on his feet within a minute – 6

Džeko – Mancini criticised him in midweek but Džeko replied in the best possible way, showing that he is Edin in the right direction (sorry). Looked bright and his hold-up play was particularly impressive. Saw one header saved, scored with another and should have notched his second but was foiled in a 1-0n-1 situation. Keep up the good work! – 7.5

Subs

Tévez – Added an extra spark to our attack, causing the Notts County defence some trouble with his direct approach. Scored the third which secured the victory and set up the fourth – 7

Barry – Shored up the midfield when he replaced Yaya. Busy for the amount of time he was on the pitch – 6

Jo – No time to mark

“Used the ball well in coming out of defence”

    >>> Could not disagree more. The amount of times Kolo gave the ball away was horrendous

“Although he wasn’t as effective as in the first match”

    >>> Again sorry to say I couldnt disagree more. He was out second best attacker in that match behind Silva was Richards.

“Not his most influential performance, but it didn’t need to be.”

    >>> Again, sorry to say but I disagree with your point here. It didnt need to be? Are you saying that footballers can merely chose when they want to be influential? They should be at their very best every match and try and influence eveyr move of the game, not just when they want? There is no shying around the fact he was very poor YET AGAIN.

“Should have possibly scored with another header towards the end”

    >>> Think that is a bit harsh! He did well to get his head on it nevermind diverting it into the net! Deserves more credit than you give him, especially for his second half performance.

” Couldn’t supply for the forwards with any crosses from open play, although his set-pieces were very dangerous ”

    >>> My word Steven were we watching different games?! How does Mario who touched the ball all of 3 times and gave the ball away everytime and never tracked back and never worked for the team get a higher score than Kolarov?! That is absolutely barmy….and from that point I have refused to finish reading your blog….very disappointed. Fine i’ll carry on…

“Suffered what looked like a serious head injury but was thankfully back on his feet within a minute”

    >>> Within a minute?! He was knocked out and had to be put in the recovery position?!?!?!

    >>> HURRAY I AGREE WITH YOU ON DZEKO! Never thought I would in this blog!

“Added an extra spark to our attack”

    >>> Tevez was our best player nevermind an extra spark!
