MAN CITY 3 – 0 Aston Villa – PLAYER RATINGS

3 Mar

Hart – Could have brought along his pipe and newspaper, such was the paucity of Villa’s attacks. Made one stop from a Heskey shot but otherwise untested – 6

Richards – Good to see him return after a brief absence, and he continued in the same form, bombing up and down the right. Agbonlahor burned him for pace on a couple of occasions, but Micah did a decent job defensively – 7

Boateng – As ever, looks a far better centre-back than right back. Composed, good in possession and reads the game so well. Heskey, at times, can be a difficult customer, but the Boat gave him no sniff of goal – 8

Lescott – Helped to keep Villa’s rare forays forward unthreatening. Looked at ease in dealing with Heskey, and didn’t revert to long-ball as often as usual. Has really picked up his form since the start of the season – 8

Zabaleta – The ultimate team player. Started at left-back and ended up as right-wingback. Won his tackles, got forward, kept the ball. Provides a much more solid base down the left than Kolarov – 7

Vieira – One of his better games in recent times. He’s much maligned by most (including me) but Villa didn’t attack through the centre, so Paddy’s lack of pace wasn’t exploited. Used possession well (72/80) and was positive. Always an aerial threat at set-pieces – 7.5

Barry – Patrolled the midfield alongside Vieira and for the first time since joining City, he had an impressive game against Villa. Silenced the booing from their supporters with a controlled display, breaking up attacks and joining ours – 7.5

Y. Touré – Credit where credit’s due, Yaya played very well. Scored of the first, provided an assist for the second and was a general threat all game. I’m not his biggest fan and he still looked limited in his effort, but at least the end product was there – 8

Kolarov – Mancini, in the absence of Adam Johnson, seems to like to balance that Kolarov gives us. Stretched the Villa defence by hugging the touchline, leaving more space for Silva to operate. Doesn’t track his man well enough defensively, but this was a positive showing – 7

Silva – Our most important player. Without Tévez, we have players to come in and perform. Without Silva, we are lost. Controls the game, movement was superb, passing exemplary. Scored a well-taken goal and was my man of the match – 9

Balotelli – Seemed to initially relish the role of the lone striker, with no Tévez or Džeko to infringe on his movement. His goal was that of a natural finisher, and though he should have been sent off for an elbow in the second half, I felt this was one of Mario’s better showings – 7

Subs

Tévez – Looked busy in his half hour on the pitch. The rest will hopefully do him good – 7

Jo – Did his job. Allowed Yaya a break – No time to mark

Boyata – Only replaced Richards with a handful of minutes remaining – No time to mark

On a purely aesthetic note, that image does absolutely nothing for David Silva’s looks!

Glad to see Yaya getting a decent score and rightly so. He’s not as bad as some people on here make out.

Absolutely dreadful. I was at the game and he did nothing other than score and chip one ball to Balotelli. Everytime he gave the ball awya he always blamed someone else. It is never his fault – waste of space, wouldn’t mind him getting a 2 year drugs ban. 8 out of 10 is a shocking rating, and how Zaba only got 7 baffles me. Zaba was here there and everywhere and was our joint best player and if not that, then slightly behind David Silva. Deserved at least 9. Barry and Vieira also did better than a 7.5 and Kolarov had a fantastic first half just faded slightly second half – again your rating doesnt do him any justice.

Balotelli and Yaya are the laziest players I have witnessed at City and frankly a disgrace. Balotelli gets a goal and thinks his job is done, same with yaya – once he scored foot off the pedla, losing possession, never in the right place, always playing the ball back immediately instead of driving forwar…I could go on.

I could dispute a lot of these Steven

I totally agree with you that he is a decent player, though my personal opinion goes more than “decent”. The ends justify the means no matter how you see “the means” [lazy or hyped-up].
